Ethan Shapiro; Managing Member

After several decades in the retail industry, Ethan established an advisory firm in 2002 with some of the best people he had worked with. They help provide answers to the many questions asked during his years managing and running a broad array of businesses. Ethan Shapiro and Associates, LLC (ESA) was created to serve the needs of retail and equity firms in a multitude of ways. Ethan Shapiro has had extensive experience in merchandising, operations, finance, real estate and the private equity markets. Ethan played a central role in driving the growth of national retail chains, opening over 5,000 stores for companies such as The Limited, Lane Bryant, C.W. Toys and One Price Clothing Stores. He served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Urban Brands, Inc., a niche fashion retailer and the parent company of Ashley Stewart, Ashley and Marianne Stores Caribbean. He is considered one of retailing’s foremost authorities on multi-cultural retailing, and writes and speaks frequently on the subject. Ethan has also been active in community outreach. He has received Business Achievement Award from the Black Retail Action Group and the La Fundacion Sobrevivientes de Cancer Mamario en Puerto Rico Humanitarian Award. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and among others been active with the organizations TEDxHarlem and Elevate New York.

Pres Talley; Co-Managing Member & Licensed Broker, ESA Retail Real Estate Services, LLC

Pres brings more than 35 years’ experience in both business operations and real estate. He heads ESA’s Commercial Real Estate Division, and has a wide knowledge of retail real estate including urban, mixed use, neighborhood, and lifestyle and power shopping centers. Pres and his group represented tenants in single transactions as well as portfolio-wide representation. For companies with remaining lease obligations on space that is no longer in necessary or profitable, Pres manages ESA’s Lease Assessment and Lease Modification team. His experience includes site selection, analysis and lease negotiations involving more than 1100 locations throughout the United States and Germany. The retail real estate group has represented, among others, Fleming Foods, H&M, Houlihan’s Restaurants, Guess, Radio Shack, Family Dollar, Carter’s Infant Apparel, Foot Locker, Sheplers Western Wear, One Price Clothing, Ashley Stewart and Verizon.

Charles (Chuck) Wilkinson, Director

Chuck Wilkinson is Principal and Founder of JRS Consulting Group. Chuck brings 25 years of senior-level retail experience as a proactive partner, helping lead performance-driven organizations. He has held a wide range of positions in organizations, including Vice President of Stores for The Avenue, Executive Vice President of Human Resources for the United Retail Group and Chief Executive Officer for The Children’s Place. Chuck directed and managed the expansion and acquisition of over 2000 stores in high growth and conversion situations with nationally recognized retailers, all of whom experienced significant growth.

Thaddeus (Ted) Debiak; Partner, Merchandise Planning

Ted is a specialist in merchandise planning and allocation, with extensive related systems expertise in multi-store and e-commerce environments. He brings 40 years’ experience fostering profitability and growth for retailers, through thorough analysis and re-engineering merchandise strategies. His expertise is in planning structures and processes to achieve increased volume, sales growth and inventory productivity. Ted believes that understanding how to monitor and control on-order vs. open-to-buy is the only way to guarantee and maintain inventory freshness. He has worked with companies with revenues of $50 million to $2 billion, and has a national reputation as a leader in his field. Ted has held senior positions with, but not limited to, Lane Bryan, Lerner’s, Urban Brands and Burlington Coat Factory.

Sherry Ferrell; Retail Operations, Strategic Planning & Human Resources

Sherry is an accomplished human resource professional, with over 20 years’ experience in the apparel and retail industries. With a focus on attracting and retaining top talent, she has successfully established H R departments that resulted in higher quality candidates and reduced cost-per-hire. She is an authority on creating programs that ensure a company’s associate base matches its customer base. Sherry has been responsible for designing incentive programs that build teamwork, increase sales and reward top achievers. She has developed and managed small and large company events that incentivize associates with recognitions that match their rewards, while always meeting the ROI goal of the business. Sherry has directed and managed the growth, expansion and mergers of several companies. She has directed policy alignment, relocation programs and succession plans, and most importantly has created communication strategies to ensure that morale remained positive during transitions. In addition, she develops programs aimed at improving individual skills, and ensuring that associates and company culture are aligned. Sherry has held senior positions with Lane Bryant, KayBee Toys, Nine West Group, Jones Apparel Group, Waterworks and the executive search firm Daniel G. Fischer.

David E. Otani; Advisor

David Otani has been a retailer for over twenty-five years, opening over 300 stores and has held executive level positions as a general manager, planner, merchant, and real estate / construction director. David’s expertise includes developing operational and revenue programs that generate incremental sales and profits, developing and managing merchandise planning systems and ensuring productive inventory levels. David also has experience in real estate site selection, lease negotiations, store design, construction, and store opening processes. He has developed strategic store opening guidelines using demographic data, revenues from other channels of distribution and psychographic data of potential markets. Additionally, David lectures at FIT semi-annually, runs a Judo school, and is currently ranked number one in the U.S. in Judo in the masters division.

Linda Roskowski; Merchandising and Marketing

Linda Roskowski is successful merchandising and marketing professional with a proven ability to increase revenues and profits through innovative programs in buying and communications. She has strong business acumen with ability to partner with clients to execute a wide range of strategies designed to establish market presence, enhance brand recognition and increase product demand. Linda is a proactive and process oriented professional who transitions easily from vision and strategy to implementation. She is poised and competent with demonstrated ability to easily transcend cultural differences. Her experience includes leading marketing and merchandising teams in the design of on-line campaigns, ad designs and placement as well as a full understanding of the buying and planning process. Among her accomplishments, Linda has held senior positions with Ashley Stewart, Marianne Stores, TMCF and has managed events at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem, NY

Mary Ann Saverese; Partner & Licensed Broker, ESA Retail Real Estate Services, LLC

Mary Ann is responsible for site selection and lease negotiations. She has over 35 years’ experience as a broker in retail real estate. Mary Ann spent over 30 years with RD Management, one of the top five privately held real estate companies in the US. As the Vic President of Real Estate, she managed all leasing functions, and oversaw tenant construction, collections and operations. As the Director of Real Estate for Kenco Realty’s Puerto Rico division, Mary Ann was responsible for leasing, marketing, operations, budgets and collections. She founded the New York chapter of Women in Retail Real Estate and served as president for over 5 years. She is a longstanding member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, works with animal shelters in New York and North Carolina and is involved with The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.

Larry Campbell; Senior Advisor & Licensed Broker, Sterling Consulting, San Juan, P.R.

Larry brings more than 30 years of experience in both store operations and retail real estate. As a special advisor to ESA concerning the Puerto Rico and the Caribbean market, Larry has extensive knowledge and experience that includes site selection, analysis, acquisitions, operations and lease negotiations involving more than 1,000 transactions since moving to Puerto Rico 15 years ago. His annual dinner on the night before the ICSC Puerto Rico Deal Making Convention is a "who's who" in retail real estate in Puerto Rico and a must attend for all doing business in the Caribbean. Larry’s clients are both retailers and landlords and have included; Radio Shack, One Price Clothing, Urban Brands,, National Stores, Coca Cola and Office Max as well as many other retailers and developers. Larry is recognized as an authority on Puerto Rico real estate and often advises retailers in the United States and Europe about the competitive landscape and the challenges of doing business throughout the Caribbean.

Ken Nisch; Advisor

Since 1971, JGA has grown to become a global leader in brand strategy and retail design. As Chairman, Ken’s international responsibilities include client liaison and project strategy. His knowledge and entrepreneurial insights into consumers’ minds and habits are integrated into conceptual development and strategic image positioning for retail operators, manufacturers and brand marketers. In 2009 he was inducted into the Retail Design Institute Legion of Honor, recognizing his outstanding career achievement in the field of retail store design.
